A shaman between cultures
Ur Shak is an orc shaman who has learned the human tongue because he wants a future other than endless war between orcs and humans. He lives apart from the other orcs and tells the Hero that he will never rest easy while Krushak, the Sleeper, remains alive. Xardas sends the Hero to him because Ur Shak may be the only shaman willing to oppose the Sleeper without treating every human as an enemy.
Ur Shak explains that orcs and morra hate one another, a hatred he traces back to Balyar and Innos. His command of the human language comes from study, and his willingness to speak with the Hero marks him as an exception among the orcs. He does not mistake that exception for safety: he still insists that Krushak must die before the Sleeper destroys the living.
The Ulu-Mulu
To enter the orc temple safely, Ur Shak says the Hero needs an Ulu-Mulu, the banner of banners that proves its bearer is a true warrior. The orcs will not attack its bearer unless attacked first, but the banner cannot be bought or found. It must be made by a shar-ulu, and Ur Shak names his old hunting companion Tarrok as the craftsman who can help if the Hero repeats their phrase, Kurg kuzuk yor mukh.
Krushak's temple
Ur Shak's knowledge is practical as well as political. He explains why Krushak's name means Destroy-biggest,
warns that the temple's rites conceal the truth about the Sleeper, and urges the Hero to find a path through the enclave that does not require slaughtering his kin. When the Hero returns from the orc city, Ur Shak recognises him as a true warrior and sends him quickly to Tarrok to finish the Ulu-Mulu.
