A worker at the convoy
Butch is a New Camp worker assigned to the convoy, and he treats conversation as another distraction from the job. When the Hero approaches him with a greeting or asks who he is, Butch refuses to explain himself and orders the freshie out of his face.
The convoy job
His brief answers fit the work around him. The convoy exists to move supplies through territory where the camps watch one another closely, and Butch has no patience for a stranger who arrives without a task.
The recovered conversation does not give him a larger personal history, so what remains clear is a man defined by the job, the camp's pressure, and his refusal to make himself available to outsiders.

Cipher and Wedge mention Butch in connection with the convoy raid and with the group of rogues who caused trouble on the road. Other people advise the Hero to avoid him, making the context clear: Butch is remembered through a dangerous operation and the expectation that contact with him will bring more trouble.
