Chokta
Residents · Beyond the camps
"Never swing them like human swords. The morra must feel the weight of the steel and let it guide his movements, not the other way around."
Chokta is an orc weapons instructor in the Orc territory. He treats the Hero's request to learn as a test of humility before it becomes a lesson, because an outsider cannot use an orcish blade properly by applying human habits to it.
His teaching is severe but structured. Chokta watches the Hero's stance, armor, and willingness to follow instructions, then decides whether the fighter has earned the right to continue.
The steel must lead
Chokta explains that an orcish blade is not simply a heavier human sword. The fighter has to feel its weight and let the movement guide the body, treating the weapon as an extension of the arm rather than forcing it through a familiar technique.
The lesson gives Chokta a distinct point of view on combat. He is not promising a shortcut to strength; he is asking the Hero to change the relationship between weapon and fighter.
A test without armor
When the training becomes serious, Chokta orders the Hero to shed the armor and take the blade. Leaving the arena or reaching for the wrong weapon is treated as cowardice, while staying with the exercise earns a grudging acknowledgment that the Hero is improving.
He starts with smaller creatures before pointing toward a harder test. Progress therefore depends on discipline as much as victory: Chokta wants proof that the Hero can listen, adapt, and keep control of the weapon.
Respect is measured in results
Chokta recognizes the Hero as the killer of Grazkrak, but reputation alone does not make him generous. He still insults the weakness of humans, complains when the Hero handles the blade badly, and ends the conversation when he has seen enough.
The balance explains his role in the enclave. Chokta is willing to teach an outsider who shows the required nerve, yet he never stops treating that outsider as someone who must prove the lesson has taken hold.
Chokta’s arena rules
- The test is not a normal fight: Chokta lends the Hero an orcish blade and expects it to be used without armor. The Hero must stay inside the arena and fight the creatures he sends in; leaving the arena, wearing armor, or using the wrong weapon breaks the test.
- How to earn mastery: The trial starts with smaller creatures and builds to a real fight against a stronger beast. Surviving the final test is what earns Chokta’s mastery lesson; simply being known as Grazkrak’s killer is not enough.
