Fingers
Shadow · Old Camp
"Ah, why didn't you lead with that."
Diego's thief
Fingers is the Old Camp's best thief, and Diego names him as the person to see about lockpicking and pickpocketing. When the Hero asks for a good word about joining the Shadows, Fingers is dismissive at first, but warms once he learns Diego sent him.
He agrees to vouch for the Hero only if he proves useful, beginning with a question about whether he knows his way around a lock.
The sound of a lockpick
Fingers warns against forcing lockpicks like randy sailors trying to crack open a harbor brothel.
A gentler touch breaks fewer picks, and a skilled thief learns the distinct sound a pick makes just before it snaps.
He also warns that noise is evidence: the louder the attempt, the more likely someone is to catch the thief.
Distraction and isolation
For pickpocketing, Fingers teaches distraction. Bump or tap the mark so one hand draws attention while the other slips into a pocket, and always check that there are no witnesses.
His advanced advice is to choose isolated targets and avoid people who are likely to fight back—especially a Fire Mage. Field practice, not bravado, is what makes the skill reliable.
