The brewer's secret
Jeremiah is the New Camp's rice-schnapps brewer. He gives the Hero a drink on the house, but asks him not to breathe a word to Silas.
Business is difficult to keep up with because the men drink so much, yet Jeremiah does not complain too loudly: the demand keeps the Rice Lord's goons off his back.
A quiet corner of the tavern
Jeremiah's work is less public than the Rice Lord's or Silas's, but it is still part of how the camp holds together. He produces the drink that lets workers wind down, while keeping his own arrangement quiet enough that the people with authority do not decide to interfere.
What Jeremiah thinks of Hakon
Asked about the Rice Lord, Jeremiah is blunt. He calls Hakon the gang lord of a band of ruffians who force the weaker to work the fields for them,
hiding that power behind a friendly face.
Jeremiah believes Horatio is the only man who could stand up to him, but says Horatio has gone soft since arriving. Horatio once admitted he was THIS close to knocking that bastard's lights out,
yet holds back because of an oath he swore to himself.
Bran's trail
When the Hero asks about Bran, Jeremiah remembers him as a regular and points toward Malon and Rayk for more information. His answer connects the tavern to the missing foreman's last known movements: Jeremiah sees who drinks there, but he does not pretend that seeing a man at the bar means understanding what happened to him afterward.
