A claim to fame

Kharim is a New Camp fighter who introduces himself with a claim to be the best warrior the camp has ever seen. He expects that reputation to settle the matter before the Hero has even tested it, and he answers ordinary questions with the same confidence as a challenge.

Fighting for pride

Kharim trades insults freely when the Hero provokes him and refuses to treat the taunts as serious criticism. When accused of fighting only to curry favour with Gomez, he bristles and insists that he is a New Camper who does not suck up to anyone.

In his own telling, he fights because wise guys like the Hero need their brains smacked out.

Scatty's test

Scatty names Kharim as one of the Old Camp's best fighters and is surprised when the Hero defeats him. That outside assessment gives Kharim's boast some weight, even if his pride makes him difficult to like: he is not merely a loudmouth, but a fighter whose standing can be measured by someone who runs the camp's arena.

Diego, Kirgo, and Scatty refer to Kharim while discussing the Hero's arena challenges. Even losing to him proves the Hero has nerve, while winning becomes a feat people cannot stop talking about, showing that Kharim functions as a recognized benchmark for Old Camp fighters. Scatty calls Kharim “one of the best fighters around here” after the Hero defeats him, explaining why the victory spreads so quickly through the arena's reputation network.
