Peasant

Peasant · New Camp

"Hmm ... afraid not. Didn't like the bloke much, and he ain't liked me. I'd go ask Silas if I was you."

Peasant is a farmer at the New Camp, speaking from the camp's ordinary work rather than from a position of authority. He has little power to solve the camp's problems, but he notices the rumors and absences that move through the workers before they reach the people in charge.

Bran's trail

When the Hero asks about the missing foreman Bran, Peasant says Bran has been gone for several days. He does not know where Bran went, but remembers that Bran visited the tavern every night and sends the Hero to Silas. That small handoff makes Peasant an early witness in the Up To His Neck investigation.

Rumors around camp

Peasant also repeats the camp's account of how an opposing group came through a secret mountain path and fell on them from behind. He leaves the larger response to Lee, speaking less like a leader than a worker trying to understand why the camp's defenses failed.
