The ornate broadsword

Whistler asks the Hero for a favor: buy a broadsword with fancy ornaments from a peddler named Fisk, who won't sell directly to Whistler over some argument he won't elaborate on. He hands over a hundred nuggets for the purchase, warns the Hero not to mention who sent him, and notes that running off with the ore instead would be unwise, since the Colony is a small place, and I know mean bastards everywhere.

One hand washes the other

If the price turns out to be higher than expected, Whistler grudgingly covers the difference; if the deal falls through entirely, he angrily calls the Hero a bloody idiot and demands his nuggets back. When the Hero succeeds, Whistler is satisfied, echoing that one hand washes the other, and promises to speak well of him when Diego asks.

If the Hero takes too long returning after taking the nuggets, Whistler instead greets him with open hostility, accusing him of trying to take me nuggets and leg it.

Quest involvement

  • Casting Shadows: I could help Whistler get his sword back.
  • Whistler's Sword: Whistler's Sword Whistler gives you 100 nuggets to buy an ornate broadsword from Fisk without naming him. Fisk actually charges 110, so go back to Whistler for the extra ten instead of spending your own ore.

What other NPCs say

Diego brings up Whistler while judging the Hero's work for the Old Camp: Whistler may praise the result, complain that the ore was taken, or remain waiting for the promised sword. His changing response is used as a concrete test of whether the Hero has kept his word and handled a risky bargain well. Diego reports the unfinished bargain in concrete terms: Whistler is still waiting for his sword and may assume the Hero ran off with the nuggets instead.
