Earning Baal Namib's trust

Before earning his trust, Baal Namib refuses to engage with the Hero. Casual greetings, invocations of the Sleeper's name, and questions about how he is doing all earn a disappointed, disgruntled sigh.

To him, belonging is not a courtesy a stranger can claim; it has to be demonstrated.

The Brotherhood's mark

Baal Namib explains that a tattoo confirms a person's belonging to the community and helps open the mind to the Sleeper. He asks the Hero to make the ink himself from darkshade, molerat fat, and a bloodfly stinger, then performs the tattoo once the mixture is ready.

He treats the ritual as ordinary Brotherhood work, but does not offer it to someone who has not first shown commitment.

A true believer

Once the Hero has proved himself, Baal Namib tests his sincerity. He says the Sleeper sent the Hero a vision and reminds him what a privilege that is before asking outright, is it truly your wish to join the Brotherhood?

When the Hero commits to following the Sleeper's path, Baal Namib sends him to Cor Kalom with his endorsement: he has found a true believer.

Robes and readiness

Baal Namib also judges whether a newcomer is ready for the Brotherhood's clothing. He refuses to provide the heavy novice robes to someone who is not yet prepared, and asks the Hero to return in the proper equipment before helping.

His repeated sighs and conditions are part of the same lesson: the Sleeper's community is entered through discipline, not enthusiasm alone.

What other NPCs say

Lester brings him up while explaining the Brotherhood's rules and warning that outsiders cannot simply approach the gurus. Cor Kalom also sends the Hero to him, while Joru describes him as a difficult old man who needs to be handled carefully.

Baal Namib’s robe check

  • What to equip: Baal Namib’s usable armor branch is a pre-Chapter-3 service that expects the Hero to be wearing novice robes before he will work on them. The Great Awakening story state and the Brotherhood/item checks also determine which response is available.
