Jarvis

Mercenary · New Camp

"This place ain't like the Old Camp, and it sure ain't the Swamp Camp neither. We do things our own way down here."

The New Camp's gate

Jarvis stands watch at the New Camp gate and is one of the first people to explain its rules. The place is different from both the Old Camp and the Swamp Camp: there are no templars or warders constantly looking after people, and the mercenaries are the only group that reliably sticks together.

Ore and escape

The Water Mages study the blue ore and plan to blow up the pile the miners have dug so its magic will shatter the Barrier. Jarvis repeats their assurance that it is safe, but the guarded grate in the middle of the cave tells its own story.

He warns the Hero not to steal from it because the camp watches the reserve day and night.

The mercenaries' purpose

The mercenaries work for General Lee, protecting the Water Mages and the ore. Jarvis frames that as more than employment: unlike Gomez's people, whom he says have given up, the mercenaries refuse to accept the Colony as permanent. We WILL get outta here. And that's what we're fightin' for.

Jarvis lists the camp's other groups as farmers, diggers, mages, and Lares's gang. The scrapers work day and night, steadily growing the pile that represents both the New Camp's hope and its greatest danger.
