Finding Nek

Sly offers the Hero a job that can help him become a Shadow: track down a missing warder named Nek. Word around camp says Nek ran off to the New Camp, but Sly doesn't buy it, and suggests the Hero ask Fletcher, who took over Nek's corner of the arena district and was his friend.

Sly is upfront that his good word depends on results: first, you find Nek, then we talk favors.

Proof of the truth

When the Hero reports finding Nek dead, Sly reacts with shock, bloody hell ... so I was right, and asks where the body was. He isn't satisfied without physical proof, hinting the Hero should look for an amulet, and once it's handed over he's moved, calling it a beauty and a tragedy, and thanking the Hero for being straight with him.

He promises to tell Diego the Hero is the best sleuth the place has ever seen, and afterward warns the Hero not to get any ideas about the amulet.

Diego discusses Sly while reporting what happened after Nek was found. Sly is pleased by the discovery, but his theory that Nek betrayed the Old Camp and went to the New Camp is treated skeptically, so the references show both Sly's concern for Nek and his tendency to interpret the disappearance suspiciously. Diego doubts Sly's theory about Nek, saying that although Nek complained constantly, he never seemed like a turncoat; the disagreement reveals how suspicion has filled the gap left by Nek's disappearance.
