Torlof

Mercenary · New Camp

"My name's Torlof, used to be a First Mate in the Royal Fleet."

The failed mutiny

Torlof explains his backstory when asked, telling the Hero he used to be a First Mate in the Royal Fleet before mutiny was involved, and, as he puts it, it wasn't as successful as a mutiny should be, landing him in the Colony instead. He remarks that talking to someone new makes him realize how much he's forgotten what a normal conversation is like among all the bastards under the dome.

Proving loyalty

When the Hero says he wants to become a merc, Torlof tells him Lee only takes the best of the best and that until he measures up, he should go make himself known with Lares and his guys. His advice for proving loyalty is direct: steal something important from the Old Camp or the Old Mine, since that proves the Hero is against Gomez, which is half the deal.

His suggested method is to win the Old Camp's trust first, then rip them off.

What other NPCs say

Gorn mentions Torlof while talking about who is willing to punish people responsible for trouble. The reference is a warning about consequences rather than an invitation to seek Torlof out, placing him among the Old Camp fighters whose reputation is strong enough to enforce discipline even when they are not present.

Torlof’s armor rule

  • Wear New Camp armor: Torlof will not improve just any armor. Put on armor belonging to the New Camp before asking him to work on it; otherwise he sends the Hero away.
