Balor

Novice · Swamp Camp

"You sure? 'Cause without a contact, no one's gonna buy this off you. You're a stranger, and no one here trusts strangers."

The harvester's route

Balor is a novice harvester working the swamp on Baal Orun's orders. When the Hero comes to collect the harvest for Cor Kalom, Balor hands it over gladly because it saves him the walk, then reminds him to collect Viran's batch on the other side of the swamp.

If that part is missing, Kalom may think Balor pawned the rest. Asked how the work is going, he answers dryly, what else am I gonna do out here? Fondle me balls?

A suspicious deal

On repeat visits Balor grows suspicious that the Hero might be skimming the harvest to sell to the New Campers. He charges fifty nuggets upfront, the usual rate, and warns the Hero not to get ideas.

When asked who might buy stolen weed, Balor needles him for the interest, pointing out that he may have put the idea in the Hero's head before admitting that he knows a possible buyer.

Cipher's name

Balor warns that the gurus will feed the Hero to the swamp sharks if they catch him dealing. After the Hero pays the advance, Balor names Cipher as the buyer and says he can be found at the tavern on the lake.

He also cautions the Hero to watch himself: Cipher is a cutthroat who may try to rip him off.

After the ritual

When the Hero returns after the Sleeper is exposed, Balor admits that he chose Kalom because Kalom had more men and seemed like the clever side to follow. He now knows he was wrong and listens when Viran offers an escape plan.

The harvester's suspicion gives way to the fear of a novice who realises the people protecting him may be the ones he needs to escape.

What other NPCs say

Viran mentions Balor while naming the people who want to leave the swamp camp, and later says Balor should still be somewhere nearby. The context is a search for possible companions in an escape plan, so Balor appears as a dissatisfied resident rather than as one of the Brotherhood's leaders.
