When the faithful lose faith
Viran's escape begins with the death of Tahrin, a novice who was forced to drink a potion and did not survive. Viran believes he may be next, and the other novices can see the same danger closing around them. The camp that promised salvation has become a place where obedience may cost them their lives.
Joru and Balor are frightened for different reasons. Joru regrets choosing Kalom and cannot move around the camp without a templar asking questions. Balor stayed because Kalom seemed to have more men and therefore more safety, but now understands that strength has not protected anyone. Both agree to run only because the hero can create the opening they cannot make themselves.
A breakout measured in seconds
The escape depends on coordination rather than a heroic charge. The hero must distract the guard, bring the novices to the entrance, and keep moving before the templars understand what is happening. Joru's suspicion and Balor's nervousness are part of the risk: they have to trust a plan that even its maker cannot guarantee.
Outside the camp, relief quickly becomes uncertainty. Joru intends to seek Cor Angar's forgiveness, while Viran carries the memory of Tahrin and the knowledge that the others may not escape. Leaving Kalom's camp does not erase what happened there; it only gives the survivors a chance to decide what their faith means after betrayal.
