Corristo

Fire Mage · Old Camp

"It's a great honor, and a great responsibility. Many see us as magic-wielding monks currying favor with kings and generals, but that's not who we are."

Corristo is the senior Fire Mage in the Old Camp, responsible for the Circle of Fire's discipline as well as its uneasy position under Gomez. He is formal and demanding with the Hero, but his questions about magic and duty are meant to test whether the Hero understands what a mage's oath costs.

The Trial of Fire

Corristo refuses to treat admission as a reward for enthusiasm. He makes the Hero demonstrate knowledge of alchemy, runecraft, and the teachings behind the Circles before allowing the Trial of Fire, then leads the oath that binds a successful candidate to Innos and the Circle.

The Water Mages' plan

When Saturas asks the Fire Mages to help dissolve the Barrier, Corristo knows cooperation will worsen Gomez's suspicion of the mages. He accepts because the chance of escape outweighs the danger, and directs the Hero to leave carefully while the Fire Mages make for the New Camp.

Quest involvement

  • Trial of Fire: Return to Corristo after both altars are lit.
  • Flames to the Flood: I'm supposed to talk to Corristo.

What other NPCs say

People direct the Hero to Corristo when the question concerns the Fire Mages, a letter, or a problem serious enough to need senior authority. Milten and the other mages also refer to his decisions when discussing who was initiated and who has permission to investigate unusual events.

Corristo’s circle training

  • The progression rule: Corristo’s lessons require Fire Mage membership, the previous magic circle for circles two through four, and enough skill points. The circle topics are available only before Chapter 4 and disappear once the requested circle is already learned.
