Outcome

The messenger amulet is the important access item for the castle gate.

A letter that needs the right face

The Water Mages still send messages to the Fire Mages, even though the camps distrust one another and the Old Camp controls the castle gates. Cronos chooses the hero because Lares's acceptance is evidence that the newcomer can be relied on. The letter is entrusted to someone whose reputation is still being formed.

The amulet matters as much as the paper. It identifies the hero as an official messenger and gives Thorus a reason to allow passage through the gate. Without it, the castle's guards would treat the delivery as trespass; with it, the hero can cross a boundary that ordinary prisoners cannot.

Milten at the center of the exchange

The letter is addressed to Corristo, but Milten is the person who receives it and carries it onward. His position makes him a natural bridge between the two orders: he belongs to the Fire Mages while still being willing to help the Water Mages' message reach their leader.

The delivery is brief, yet its implications are broad. The camps' arguments do not erase their need to communicate, and the hero's successful passage proves that cooperation can exist inside the hostility. Cronos's reward closes the errand, but the messenger amulet leaves the hero with a new kind of access—to the spaces where the colony's rival plans are discussed.
