Darrion
Novice · Swamp Camp
Ever since the templars been huntin' crawlers like mad, we're forgin' till our hands are bloody.
A forge under pressure
Darrion is the Swamp Camp's hard-worked novice smith. The templars' minecrawler hunts keep his forge busy, and he has little patience for anyone who arrives without trade or a real task. His craft is also a point of pride: he insists that a blade's character matters as much as whether it kills.
Stone and the war hammer
Darrion trained under Stone in the Old Camp, but their old connection has become a rivalry. He learns that Stone has copied one of his designs and that the Hero has been involved. Rather than forget it, Darrion asks the Hero to bring back Stone's new weapon; after examining it, he teaches the Hero how to forge a war hammer with its head and rear spike properly counterweighted.
He identifies Gor Na Zar's engraved sword as one of his own finest works and refuses to copy it merely because the Hero asks. Instead he demands proof of skill in the form of a light two-handed sword. His later lessons concentrate on balance, tempering, and the control needed to keep large weapons from failing under their own momentum.
Darrion's resentment of Stone never makes him abandon the forge. Even after learning how a copied design reached the Old Camp, he judges the returned weapon on its workmanship and follows through on his promise to teach the Hero. His rivalry is personal, but his standards for a finished weapon remain professional.
What other NPCs say
Gor Na Toth directs the Hero to Darrion when a weapon needs a smith's attention, while Stone and Huno refer to Darrion's work when discussing craft and apprenticeships. Gor Na Zar's blade provides the strongest example of Darrion's reputation: his workmanship is treated as distinctive enough to be remembered after the owner's death. Gor Na Zar praises the smith's craft through its fundamentals—the balance and weight Darrion understands when making a weapon for a true warrior.
Darrion’s armor and weapon standards
- Armor work: Darrion only works for a committed member of the Brotherhood, and he expects the Hero to be wearing templar armor. He refuses to improve other armor.
- The story step matters too: This service does not open from guild membership alone. The Hero must also finish the second part of the Brotherhood’s forge rivalry before Darrion offers the armor work.
- Proving yourself as a smith: When Darrion asks whether the Hero is ready for his refined weapon designs, the proof is practical: forge a light two-handed sword and bring it back. He teaches smiths who demonstrate their craft, not people who only deliver someone else’s work.
