Harlok
Novice · Swamp Camp
"Aw, how nice of him. Remind me again when I've gotten some more kip, yeah?"
The missed shift
Harlok is a Brotherhood novice who has decided that his shift at the herb mashers can wait. He is tired of the work and even more tired of being reminded that someone else is waiting for relief, so his first instinct is to tell the Hero to leave him alone.
Ghorim's message
When the Hero carries Ghorim's message, Harlok answers with sarcasm and asks to be reminded after he has had more sleep. A harder threat only makes him snap back; he knows he is shirking, but resents being ordered around by another novice.
Reluctant duty
Eventually the Hero's persistence wears him down. Harlok agrees to go, grumbling that he is on his way, and takes the shift he was supposed to have covered.
The episode gives him no grand religious or political role, but it shows the ordinary labour beneath the Brotherhood's ritual ambitions—and the resentment of the people expected to keep it moving.
Quest involvement
- Ghorim's Replacement: Ghorim is stuck mashing herbs while Harlok sleeps through his replacement shift. Harlok's hut is below Cor Kalom's laboratory, beside Fortuno's shop. You can talk Harlok into relieving Ghorim or provoke him into moving.
What other NPCs say
Ghorim mentions Harlok while complaining about who should have taken over the position long ago. The remark is political rather than instructional, suggesting that Harlok is seen by at least some workers as a capable successor who has been repeatedly blocked by the same camp habits.
