Syra
Other · Old Camp
"Protection. That's a nice way of saying it."
Syra works in the Old Camp castle under Gomez's so-called protection, a status that leaves her exposed rather than safe. She is guarded and exhausted when the Hero first approaches, but gradually trusts him enough to explain the pressure Bullit has put on her and why the men around her have failed to stop it.
Bullit's harassment
Bullit's treatment of Syra is not presented as a single public threat but as a pattern of intimidation: taking her ore, ordering her about, and using the protection of Gomez and the warders to make resistance dangerous. Syra believes that confronting him openly would only bring more guards down on anyone who tried to help, so she points the Hero toward the one moment Bullit is vulnerable: his solitary, drunken walks at night.
A way out of the Old Camp
The ordeal convinces Syra that surviving one bully will not make the Old Camp safe. She begins to consider the Swamp Camp as a place where she might start again, and insists that Velaya and Seraphia deserve the same chance. Her escape plan depends on secrecy and on the Hero confirming that the camp's upheaval has passed before the three women risk leaving.
Quest involvement
- Bully for Bullit: This is the payoff for Bullit's treatment of new prisoners and his harassment of Syra. You can make Bullit promise to leave Syra alone, or turn the confrontation into a fight. Syra will want to know about this.
- Double, Double: Snaf wants Syra's stew recipe, but she keeps it for Gomez's table.
- Secrets: Syra is considering an escape to the Swamp Camp, but will not leave without Velaya and Seraphia. Speak to both women and carry their answers back to Syra. Syra explicitly warns that a guard tip-off would ruin the escape.
- Escape Plan: This is the Old Camp escape thread involving Syra, Velaya, and Seraphia. Keep the plan quiet until Syra says the moment is right.
What other NPCs say
Snaf mentions Syra when the warders gossip about the stew she makes in the castle kitchen, but Velaya's later references reveal the darker context. Syra trusted the women planning an escape and was handed over to Gomez, so her ordinary role as a cook is inseparable from the betrayal that follows. Velaya's grief makes the betrayal personal: Syra trusted the people around her, but was handed over to Gomez and killed.
