A uniform built around the convoy

The Old Camp's test for a future warder begins with logistics rather than combat. Kirgo needs a shipment moved through the Exchange Zone and three diggers to carry it. The work makes the camp's hierarchy visible: the diggers move the goods, while the guards are expected to keep the people and the ore alive long enough to reach their destination.

Kirgo already suspects trouble, and the Blues confirm it by attacking the convoy. The hero's first duty is to stand between the shipment and the ambush, giving the diggers time to survive the route. Once the danger passes, Kirgo takes responsibility for the rest of the escort and sends the result back to Thorus.

Thorus's definition of service

Thorus explains that warders protect the ore barons, the ore, the camp, and the mine. He presents their violence as necessary work: crawlers threaten the diggers, the gates threaten everyone outside, and the barons need cover while they bargain with the king. The warders' power is justified as the price of keeping the settlement functioning.

But the speech also makes clear that the rank demands loyalty to the group above all else. Thorus says the warders survived by sticking together, and expects the new recruit to do the same. The armor and sword from Stone mark the hero's new place inside that chain of protection—and inside the system that decides who receives it.
