Route

  • Lefty sends you to Ulmar for water, then expects one bottle delivered to every farmer. Check the hand-ins carefully: Horatio, Pock, and Rufus all react if you show up empty-handed.
  • Do not refuse Lefty after accepting. He treats refusal or an unfinished delivery as a challenge to his authority and can force a fight.

Complete the distribution and report to Lefty; he may immediately try to give you another water run.

Water as a weapon of authority

Lefty calls the farmers' thirst a simple job, but he is not asking because he wants to help them personally. He controls the errand and expects the hero to prove obedience by carrying water to Horatio, Pock, Rufus, and the other workers. His authority is built from assigning necessities that everyone else has to accept.

Ulmar reveals the pressure beneath the order: there may not be enough water for everyone that day. The hero has to distribute what is available while knowing that someone may still be left thirsty. The farmers' gratitude and disappointment make the shortage visible in a way Lefty's command does not.

A favor that becomes a chain

Once the bottles are delivered, Lefty treats the work as evidence that the hero enjoyed being useful and immediately suggests doing it every day. The task has changed from a favor into an obligation without the hero ever agreeing to that larger burden.

Refusal is dangerous because Lefty reads it as a challenge to his position. Completing the run avoids a fight, but it also shows how easily a camp leader can turn relief work into control. The farmers receive water; Lefty gains another person he expects to command.

The ordinary cost of the camp's hierarchy

This small delivery explains why the New Camp's people need someone like the hero. Resources are scarce, distribution is uneven, and the person standing between the supply and the workers can make the shortage feel like a personal punishment. The water run is not a grand political act, but it reveals the daily structure that larger resistance is trying to escape.
