By the Hand of a Master
Quest · Chapter 1 · New Camp
Route
- Tell Haenno you want a bow, then bring the wood you prefer. He explains that willow bends more readily than oak, so the material choice matters to the bow he makes.
- After you supply the wood, give Haenno time to craft it. If he tells you to come back later, the bow is not ready yet.
Quest Parts
- By the Hand of a Master:
- Haenno needs the materials, then he'll craft the bow.:
- Haenno's crafting the bow. I just gotta pick it up.:
Outcome
Return to Haenno to collect the finished bow.
A weapon made for its archer
Haenno begins with a question about how the hero shoots. His answer is a craftsman's correction to the usual prison-yard logic: skill belongs to the archer, but the bow still shapes what that skill can become. He offers to carve a bow personally, provided the hero chooses the wood.
The choice between willow and oak is therefore not decoration. Willow bends more readily; oak gives the bow a different character. Haenno wants the hero to understand that materials carry their own strengths before the first cut is made.
Patience in the workshop
Once the wood is delivered, the work passes from the hero's hands to Haenno's. The bow cannot be rushed simply because the customer is waiting. Haenno may ask the hero to return later, then finishes the weapon with enough pride to hope it will be carried proudly.
That exchange gives the colony a rare moment of care. The bow is not a discarded tool taken from a fallen man or a weapon chosen from a rack; it is shaped for one person through a conversation about how they fight. Haenno's craft turns equipment into a small piece of identity and trust.
