A market war at the edge of the swamp

Cor Kalom frames the rival herbalists as a problem to be removed. Their laboratory outside the camp entrance belongs to New Campers who have found a way to produce their own herb rolls, cutting into the Brotherhood's trade and influence. Kalom offers no careful instructions because he is less interested in justice than in making sure his monopoly survives.

Renyu guards the cave while Jacko runs the operation. The pair are not presented as a rival faith or a military force; they are small-time producers trying to keep a business alive under pressure from a larger and more organized camp. Their position is precarious enough that a warning can change the outcome.

The value of a warning

The hero can let Jacko know that five templars are on the way. Once Jacko understands the threat is real, he moves the group before the confrontation begins. That route still closes the laboratory, but it avoids turning a dispute over herb rolls into a massacre.

The choice reveals how power works in the colony. Kalom can call in templars and make a competitor disappear, while Jacko's best defense is hearing about the attack a few moments early. The hero becomes the difference between a business being displaced and its people being destroyed.

A monopoly built on fear

When Kalom hears that the herbalists are out of business, he treats the result as proof that the outsider may finally be useful. The task strengthens the Brotherhood's control over both production and consumption, but it also exposes the insecurity beneath that control. A religious camp preparing a grand ritual is willing to use intimidation to protect a commercial advantage.
