An idea born over a drink

Wolf's armor begins as a thought he had in the pub: minecrawler plates are already hard, and another breed carries plates tougher still. If they can be removed without damage, they could become armor strong enough to rival the best protection in the Colony.

The idea sounds simple until the hero has to gather the material. The plates are attached by a thin tissue line, and the knife must follow it carefully. A forceful harvest destroys the very protection Wolf is trying to build, so the project depends on the patient trophy work taught by experienced hunters.

Strength made from the mine's danger

Once enough plates arrive, Wolf needs time to discover how to connect them. The armor is not forged in a single dramatic moment; it is assembled through trial, adjustment, and an understanding of material that ordinary metal cannot provide. Waiting for the finished set is part of accepting that a good defense cannot be rushed.

When the work is complete, the armor is tougher than almost anything short of Gomez's own protection. That comparison gives the project its political edge. The ore barons' equipment represents power controlled by the Old Camp, while Wolf's design turns a creature from the mine into a defense the New Camp can make for itself.

A different kind of independence

The armor does not make the mine safe, but it changes what the hero can endure inside it. Wolf's invention is a reminder that the Colony's prisoners are capable of creating new tools from the world around them. Every plate recovered cleanly is one small refusal to remain dependent on the people who control the workshops and the stores.
