- I gotta find Ur-Shak.:
Outcome
Ur-Shak becomes the key contact for dealing with the orcs.
The search after the Free Mine
The Hero begins looking for Ur-Shak at a moment when the human camps are already reeling. The Free Mine has fallen, its people are dead or scattered, and the survivors are waiting while their leaders decide how to respond. Saturas needs help for the larger struggle against the Barrier, but the path forward leads into the territory of the people the humans have spent generations treating as enemies.
Xardas points the Hero toward an orc shaman who lives apart from the main faction. He also teaches the Hero enough Orcish to make the meeting possible. The language lesson is more than a practical convenience: the Hero cannot approach Ur-Shak as another armed human demanding answers. He has to show enough willingness to understand the orcs to keep the conversation from becoming another act of violence.
Ur-Shak's different vision
Ur-Shak is an exile among his own people, but his isolation has given him a perspective the other orcs lack. He learned the human language because he wanted to understand the hatred between the two peoples rather than simply repeat it. He does not want humans or orcs wiped out, and he rejects the idea that the conflict can be solved by obeying one god's command to destroy the other side.
His knowledge of the Sleeper is the reason Xardas believes he can help. Ur-Shak calls the Sleeper Krushak, the greatest destroyer, and explains that the orcs' ancestors summoned the being while believing they could control it. The old scrolls say otherwise: once awake, Krushak will crush all life, regardless of whether it belongs to an orc or a human. That makes Ur-Shak an uneasy ally, but also one of the few people who understands the danger without worshipping it.
The door into the orc story
Ur-Shak cannot simply lead the Hero into the temple. He can help him reach the orc settlement, but the temple is sealed by magic and the orc shamans have spent moons failing to break through. The orcs believe that a final sacrifice is needed, while Ur-Shak suspects that their faith is turning the problem into something worse.
The first help he offers is the Ulu-Mulu, a banner that proves its wielder has earned an orc warrior's respect. To make one, the Hero must work with Tarrok, an old friend of Ur-Shak who has been made a slave in the Free Mine. From that point on, Ur-Shak becomes the bridge between the human investigation and the orcs' hidden history. The Hero has not solved the threat, but he has found someone willing to explain why the threat exists—and to seek a way through it without slaughtering an entire people.
