Route

  • Bring Cavalorn the first bestiary volume. It teaches the basic scavenger trophy cut: start from the reinforced ridge at the back of the skull and work the plate free without breaking it.
  • Keep the other volumes if you find them. Cavalorn uses each one to unlock another creature-harvesting lesson.

Outcome

The volume leads directly into Cavalorn's trophy-training chain.

A field guide with a practical purpose

The first bestiary volume looks like a book of natural history, but Cavalorn immediately recognizes a more useful purpose. He knows the series and believes there are five volumes in all, each devoted to a different kind of animal. In the colony, knowledge is valuable when it can keep a hunter alive or turn a dangerous kill into something worth carrying home.

The opening lesson concerns scavenger skull plates. Cavalorn explains where the reinforced ridge begins, how the cut should run toward the jaw, and how to lever the plate free without cracking it. The instructions are precise because the trophy's value depends on what the hunter does after the creature is dead.

The first lesson is restraint

The book's real subject is control. A careless blade can break the plate or ruin the edge, while a patient cut preserves the whole piece for trade. Cavalorn is teaching the hero to see a carcass not as a finished kill but as a collection of materials that must be separated with skill.

That idea opens a longer chain of practical lessons. The first volume turns a found book into an apprenticeship, linking the creatures of Khorinis to the tools, risks, and small sources of independence that keep the colony's hunters supplied.
