Beasts of Khorinis IV

Quest · Chapter 4 · Other stories

Route

  • Take this bestiary volume to Cavalorn and keep the series together. He is using the books as a field guide for trophy work.
  • Do not treat creature parts as automatic loot: the bloodfly, lurker, and fire-lizard examples all require a careful cut to preserve the valuable piece.

Quest Parts

  • Beasts of Khorinis IV:
  • I should show Cavalorn the book.:
  • Someone will know what to do with the book.:
  • I need the skin and two plates from a swampshark.:

Outcome

The hand-in continues Cavalorn's harvesting lessons.

The bestiary reaches the swamp

The fourth volume takes Cavalorn's lessons to one of the colony's nastiest predators. Swampsharks have already cost him two companions, and he admits that he never learned how to skin one properly. The result was years of perfectly usable carcasses being left to waste because no one knew how to open them without destroying the hide and plates.

The book gives him a chance to correct that gap. It turns a creature remembered only as a danger into a source of material that can be recovered with the right technique. Cavalorn asks for a hide and two plates so the hero can prove the method works outside the pages.

Knowledge that changes the value of a kill

The swampshark lesson carries a harder truth than the earlier exercises: experience is often bought with loss. Cavalorn's dead companions taught him what to fear, but not how to claim the reward hidden in the carcass. The hero benefits from knowledge that someone else had to learn painfully.

When the work succeeds, Cavalorn says the two of them are now among the only people who know how to do it properly. That small advantage matters in the colony. A dangerous hunt can become a source of ore, equipment, or trade—but only for a hunter who can bring the valuable parts home intact.
