Outcome

Lares receives Caine's report and sends the Hero onward with the amulet and Caine's vision for Cor Kalom.

A trade dispute that becomes a disappearance

Lares sends the hero to Caine because the Brotherhood's new smoke rolls are becoming too strong and addictive. Caine is supposed to be the New Camp's link to the Swamp Camp, someone who can ask what is being put into the herbs and keep Lares's people from staggering around like zombies. It is an ordinary piece of camp intelligence—until Caine fails to appear.

Cor Kalom dismisses the absence as another novice sleeping off a smoke roll. The indifference is telling: Kalom is focused on his experiments and sees no reason to investigate a missing apprentice. The hero has to look beyond the obvious explanation and follow the traces into the Abandoned Mine.

A vision in a dead man's hands

Caine's trail ends at a tomb and an undead orc. He had been drawn there by visions, and the amulet found with his body gives those visions a physical sign. Lares does not know what the object means, but he recognizes that the Brotherhood is desperate for evidence that the Sleeper is speaking to someone.

The amulet changes the value of the report. What began as a warning about addictive herbs can now be offered to Cor Kalom as a mystery from beyond the camp. Lares's advice is practical: the hero may be able to turn Caine's death and vision into a way of entering the Brotherhood's circle of confidence.

Playing along as the camps shift

The mission exposes the cost of treating the Brotherhood as an intelligence source rather than a community. The New Camp wants to know what Kalom is putting into its trade goods, but the answer leads to a novice consumed by the camp's own visions. By carrying the amulet back, the hero is not simply completing Lares's errand; they are stepping into the belief system that caused the investigation to matter.
