The Focus Stone

Route

  • Follow Nyras from the Swamp Camp to the focus near the north cliff at the forest edge. He knows the way and expects you to bring it to Y'Berion.
  • Nyras becomes unstable beside the stone and attacks. Beat him, collect the focus, and speak to him afterward; he explains that the headaches became overwhelming.
  • Return the stone to Y'Berion as soon as possible. The hand-in earns a fire-protection talisman.

Outcome

The focus is used to advance preparations for the Great Awakening.

A sacred object and an ambitious novice

Y'Berion sends the hero toward a focus stone near the northern cliff, guided by Nyras, one of the Brotherhood's most promising novices. The task is an honor in Nyras's eyes: he has served the Sleeper and dreamed of speaking with Y'Berion, while the outsider has been given the privilege of carrying the stone to the master.

That jealousy is already mixed with something stranger. Nyras has been suffering headaches, and the closer he comes to the focus, the less control he has over himself. The stone's forcefield has affected people before, but neither Nyras nor the hero understands what the power is doing until the moment it overwhelms him.

The moment the vision breaks

Nyras takes the focus and attacks, then remembers almost none of the episode afterward. His shame and confusion are genuine, but the incident cannot be dismissed as a simple quarrel between novices. A sacred object has driven one of the Brotherhood's strongest believers into violence, leaving a warning inside the very ritual Y'Berion hopes will awaken the Sleeper.

The hero returns the stone, and Y'Berion treats the recovery as confirmation that the amulet and the outsider have a role in the preparations. He rewards the work with protection from fire and sends the stone onward toward the Great Awakening, while promising to investigate what happened to Nyras.

The first fracture in the ritual

This focus is the beginning of the larger search, but it also introduces its danger. The Brotherhood sees the stone as a necessary key; Nyras's collapse shows that its power can distort the minds of those who approach it. The hero carries both facts forward: the ritual may free the colony, but every step toward it brings the Sleeper's influence closer.
