Yberion
Guru · Swamp Camp
You have arrived. Do I know you? No. But I have seen you before ... in a vision that the Sleeper sent me.
Yberion receives the Hero as a possible answer to a vision rather than as an ordinary visitor. Without the proper introduction he calls for the guards; after the Hero brings news of Caine's death in an old tomb, he treats the object found on the undead orc as the key to a task he has been expecting. His certainty repeatedly unsettles the Hero, but Yberion asks for trust rather than claiming to explain every step.
The focus stone
Yberion says the focus stones rose when the mages cast the spell that created the Barrier and disturbed the flow of magic. A deadly force field surrounds the nearby site, yet the Brotherhood needs a stone for the Great Awakening. He sends the Hero to Nyras near the camp gate, gives him an amulet to wear, and leaves the amulet's precise power deliberately uncertain: he knows only that the Sleeper led them to it.
When the amulet destroys the barrier and the Hero returns with the focus, Yberion accepts the result as the answer to the Brotherhood's prayers. He also says the stones themselves remain a mystery, neither clearly human nor orcish in origin. The success convinces him to rely on the Hero again, even though the Hero remains openly skeptical of his reading of events.
Nyras and the force field
The journey to the focus leaves Nyras changed. If Nyras attacks the Hero and survives, Yberion hears that he remembers nothing and intends to speak with him. If Nyras dies, he calls it a loss to the Brotherhood but accepts that the Hero had no choice. In either case, he attributes the disturbance to the force field, not to the Sleeper, and says similar effects have been reported before.
Yberion rewards the recovery with a talisman that protects against fire. The reward does not soften his purpose: after the focus is secured, he says two further obstacles still stand between the Brotherhood and the ritual.
The tome in the castle
One of those tasks concerns a tome the mages obtained from King Rhobar in the Colony's early days, when they still hoped to break the Barrier themselves. Yberion believes it contains knowledge of the focus stones. Talas was sent to retrieve it from the Fire Mages and failed to return, so Yberion makes the Hero his personal envoy and gives him a sigil intended to pass the castle guards.
He recognizes that the sigil will not help a bandit enter the castle and points such a Hero toward the Water Mages' messengers or the New Camp's leader instead. Once the tome is recovered, he asks after Talas, offers a choice of reward, and directs the Hero to Cor Kalom for the next preparation. His thanks differ in tone for a novice, Shadow, or bandit, but the request remains the same: the Brotherhood needs help regardless of the Hero's faith.
The Great Awakening
Yberion places Cor Kalom's work at the center of the approaching ritual. Kalom has spent months preparing a concoction, and Yberion tells him to trust the Hero because the focus stone was found. When the Hero discovers the minecrawler lair, its queen, and eggs full of ichor, Yberion sees the material Kalom needs for dreamjuice. Kalom says the elixir can be ready that night.
Yberion then announces that the Great Awakening will take place that night and invites the Hero to witness it, whether or not he belongs to the Brotherhood. By then he no longer presents the Hero merely as a useful outsider: the completed tasks have convinced him that the Sleeper sent the Hero to the camp.
What other NPCs say
The Brotherhood invokes Y'Berion whenever it discusses visions, leadership, the Sleeper's commands, or the preparations around the focus stones. Many still treat him as the spiritual center of the camp, but the crisis gives rival gurus reasons to question whether his interpretations are wisdom or wishful thinking. Baal Lukor voices the growing doubt directly, saying that Y'Berion “just saw what he wanted to see,” rather than accepting the vision without question.
