When the Old Camp closes its doors

This quest begins after the Hero's place in the Old Camp has become impossible to defend. Cor Angar refuses to take him into the Brotherhood because the Swamp Camp is trying to keep its people alive and reorganize after its own disaster. That leaves the New Camp as the only faction willing to consider him, but even there, belonging is not handed out as charity. The Hero has already worked beside the Water Mages, yet he still has to earn a place among Lee's mercenaries.

Saturas treats the request with a mixture of recognition and caution. A former man of Gomez's camp is an awkward arrival, but the Hero's earlier work has made him difficult to dismiss. The question is no longer whether he can survive on his own; it is whether the New Camp can trust someone who has stood at the center of so many camp conflicts.

Myxir's search for the source

Lee's final test sends the Hero back to the Water Mages and into Myxir's unusual investigation. Myxir listens for magical vibrations that pass through spells, summoned creatures, and the New Camp's ore. He needs a fighter to cover his back while he follows the disturbance across the beach, where its strength rises and fades like a signal that cannot decide whether to reveal itself.

The search leads to a wreck beneath the water. Myxir can sense that something there is protected by magic, but his lungs are not suited to the dive, so the dangerous part falls to the Hero. The source turns out to be an old book sealed by a spell of Adanos that has preserved it from decay. Myxir is less interested in the Hero's dramatic discovery than in the moment the vibrations finally settle back into balance.

A place among the mercenaries

When the Hero reports back, Lee makes clear that he has been watching for much longer than this single assignment. The work with the focus stones, Gorn's recommendation, and the successful protection of Myxir together show Lee that the Hero is useful to the New Camp rather than merely seeking shelter from the Old Camp's anger. Lee still asks why the Hero chose them, because a mercenary's loyalty cannot rest on convenience alone.

The answer changes the Hero's status in the Colony. Lee accepts him as a mercenary, and Saturas then recognizes him as part of the Water Mages' wider community. The new allegiance is not a clean erasure of the past: the Hero arrives carrying the history of the Old Camp's rejection. It is a decision by the New Camp to turn that history into a reason for trust, provided he continues to prove himself through action.
